Karen Toohey, portrait photographer

Welcome, I'm so glad you stopped by!

About me…

I love my job!! I would describe myself as a laid-back, photographic storyteller.

sto·ry·tell·er n. One who tells or writes stories.

photo·jour·na·list n. One who communicates through the art of photographs.

life·style n. A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group.

My passion...

I feel blessed that I can help create a portrait history of moments in time and capture those images through the lens of my camera. Portraits that your family will treasure for years to come.

The art of photography to me is much more than producing pictures on paper. It's about capturing the essence of you and your family in a stress-free and relaxed environment.

One of the most rewarding aspects of working with families is truly getting to know them so I can create portraits that reflect their personality.

My style...

is a blend of traditional and lifestyle photography. I strive to create unique images that reflect your personality and interests.

Lifestyle photography is a representation of real life, your family in action. There is no studio backdrop other than your home, a park, your favorite spot. The setting is personal and the lighting is natural. You're thinking you don't have the perfect room. I'll look for "pockets" of light, color and texture in and around your home. Very seldom is there a home with almost no natural light, but if that's the case then it might be time to head outdoors;)

The Studio...

Creative Portraits by Karen is a home based photography studio. My home location serves primarily as an office and meeting place for client consultations, portrait viewings, and ordering appointments.

I mainly photograph on locationI love capturing images outdoors, at a park, your home or in a special place. Together we will create memorable images in a relaxed and comfortable setting that can inspire magical moments.

I do have a traditional camera room to work in and generally use this for maternity/newborn sessions, creative head shots (when we can't find a location) and "last minute" high school seniors.
